Soapmaking

A demonstration and instruction on how to make cold process "lye" soap as well as providing some history and tips to make it much easier than your Granny ever had it. Community Herbalist Consultation

A community based herbalist is a traditional type of herbalist who uses herbs and other tools to maintain the health of their community.
Susanna Reppert and David Brill, both graduates of The School of Herbal Therapuetics will be available to help you improve your health through the use of herbs. The half hour appointments are private, confidental and focused on your specific issues. Appointments must be made in advance, upon registration we will ask for your main area of concern for instance: menopause, digestion issues, anxiety and so on. You will also be asked to bring a list of any medicines you currently take. Herbalists David or Susanna will suggest herbs, vitamin supplements and possibly dietary changes that are appropriate for your needs. Fees are on a sliding scale minimum $15.00 to $30.00. Barter is welcome with prior arrangement. Schedule between 5 – 8 p.m.

Titanic Era Tea Party & Program

The Maiden Voyage of the Titanic marks its 100th Anniversary this year. Join us for an evening tea party while we hear from Eliza Blackwell Dupree, a fictional survivor of the Titanic Disaster of 1912. Eliza will "bring you on board" and tell you little known facts, surprising tidbits and debunk some of the common myths surrounding the sinking of this majestic liner. Don your favorite hat if you like and sail away with us back in time as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of this unfortunate tragedy with dignity and respect.

Fairy Terrariums - An Enchanted Garden

Bubblefairy will guide you through the creation of a small terrarium ~ a perfect home for the wee folk to live! Using recycled glass containers or a clear glass ornament, moss and other small plants suitable for terrarium culture each participant will make a pleasant home. She lives with her husband and four children in Grantham and teaches at Messiah College. Two years ago Martha Smith started Silver and Stone Artisan Jewelry. Traveling Herb Seminar #77 - Tea and Gardens

We will travel first to the Morris Arboretum of the University of PA. This garden continues to become more beautiful every year. It features a wide variety of gardens including rose gardens, a rock wall garden, a garden railway, Japanese gardens, herb gardens, a sculpture garden and so much more. We will enjoy a guided tour followed by free time to explore on your own. At the pavilion here we will savor our box lunch prepared by Nancy Reppert of Sweet Remembrances. A short drive down the road will bring us to the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, a traditional-style Japanese house and nationally-ranked garden. This land has a history of housing Japanese structures dating to the 1876 Centennial Exposition. We will have a tour of the house and also learn the Japanese Tea Ceremony as taught by the Urasenke School. Guests will sample a traditional seasonal sweet and a bowl of green tea. We will continue our day with an evening meal at the Simpson House Tea Room, Chester Springs, PA.

You will also be asked to bring a list of any medicines you currently take. Herbalists David or Susanna will suggest herbs, vitamin supplements and possibly dietary changes that are appropriate for your needs. Fees are on a sliding scale minimum $15.00 to $30.00. Join us as we visit three New Jersey Gardens! Our morning stop is Freylinghuysen Arboretum. Part of the NJ Park System, this lovely garden is well worth the visit. Enjoy the rose garden, marsh meadow garden, knot garden, shade garden and more. We will spend the morning here and have our box lunch provided by Sweet Remembrances Tea Room at the pavilion. Our afternoon will begin at Greenwood Garden.This special garden only open to tours, will transport us back to the era of the country estate with wide lawns and moss covered reflecting pools. Late afternoon we will visit the Wick House Herb Garden in Jockey Hollow Park, which is the first Historical National Park in the US dating back to Washington and the Revolutionary War. The Kitchen Herb garden is well labeled and has continuously been a garden since 1752. In the evening our tea party is at Cosy Cupboard Tea Room, Convent Station, NJ.

HERBAL CANDLE MAKING

Enjoy a pleasant evening of learning how to make two styles of paraffin candles: You will pour one hot paraffin wax candle into a mold filled with embedded fun stuff like herbs, sea shells, pine cones etc. The second candle we’ll use a six inch pillar candle and collage the exterior using hot wax to embellish the sides with beautifully pressed flowers and pressed herbs. We’ll provide all the supplies needed for you to make & take home both handcrafted candles. NO artistic skill needed.
